Welcome to the blog of the Durham University Auckland Castle excavations, a collaborative archaeological project between the Department of Archaeology at Durham University and The Auckland Project.

We are back in June 2024 for another season of summer archaeology at the home of the Prince-Bishops of Durham! This year we're working more closely with The Auckland Project to share our findings with you - you can follow our progress via The Auckland Project's website here. You can also come and see the excavations really easily this year - we'll have a viewing platform to give you a great view of the dig! Come down to Auckland Castle and say hello! We'll also have some films of our previous work on showing in the Auckland Tower, you can find out how to visit here.

To catch up on some of our findings from previous years, please check out these news articles and our episode of Digging Up Britain's Past which followed our excavation in 2019.
